    Description

    vintage WWII Mercury Kiekhaefer 1 hp stationary gasoline engine, Model KB-3G -- manufactured for the US Military in WWII - is dated 1943 -- was used to power a military issue Disston Chainsaw Sharpener as well as for powering a small generator to turn over the electrical starter in the number 3 engine on WWII aircraft -- measures app. 11 by 14 by 16 in. and weighs about 37 pounds --

    amazingly still has a spark and compression feels good -- missing the fan and fan cover screen / likely had a recoil mechanism / likely connected to a power output through the open geared part opposite the magneto -- the little fitting shown separate from the choke lever had broken and is repaired with Steel JBWeld -- anything else not seen is not there

    "Mercury Kiekhaefer made a single-cylinder engine Model KB3-G. It is of similar design to your twin KB6F's. As for application: the gentleman I bought my KB3-G from, called it a "Putt-Putt". He said it was used in aviation and originally had a generator attached. The Putt-Putt would be started to generate power to start the #3 flight engine. Once the #3 engine was running, engines #1, 2, and 4 could be started.
    The tags on my KB3-G are easily readable, here is what they say:
    TAG 1
    WARNING Do not use Detergent or Diesel type oils in Fuel Mixture
    PREPARING FUEL Use only Highest Grade Automobile oil of Nationally known Brands. 1/2 Pint S.A.E. 30 with 1 Gallon High Grade Gasoline
    Mix thoroughly with paddle in open container before pouring into fuel tank READ INSTRUCTION MANUAL

    STARTING INSTRUCTIONS
    1 Open fuel shut-off valve all the way
    2 Check fuel tank for fuel level
    3 Open vent screw in filler cap
    4 Cold engine--Hold choke in all out position while cranking 1 or 2 times
    5 Warm engine--Requires no choking
    6 Pull starter slowly until it engages then pull with a snap repeating until engine starts holding throttle in full open position
    7 Warm up engine by manipulating choke until engine idles freely
