Description
vintage WWII Mercury Kiekhaefer 1 hp stationary gasoline engine, Model KB-3G -- manufactured for the US Military in WWII - is dated 1943 -- was used to power a military issue Disston Chainsaw Sharpener as well as for powering a small generator to turn over the electrical starter in the number 3 engine on WWII aircraft -- measures app. 11 by 14 by 16 in. and weighs about 37 pounds ----
--
amazingly still has a spark and compression feels good -- missing the fan and fan cover screen / likely had a recoil mechanism / likely connected to a power output through the open geared part opposite the magneto -- the little fitting shown separate from the choke lever had broken and is repaired with Steel JBWeld -- anything else not seen is not there

*from the web:
"Mercury Kiekhaefer made a single-cylinder engine Model KB3-G. It is of similar design to your twin KB6F's. As for application: the gentleman I bought my KB3-G from, called it a "Putt-Putt". He said it was used in aviation and originally had a generator attached. The Putt-Putt would be started to generate power to start the #3 flight engine. Once the #3 engine was running, engines #1, 2, and 4 could be started.
The tags on my KB3-G are easily readable, here is what they say:
