The Round Oak Stove Company was founded in 1871 by Philo D. Beckwith and quickly became considered the finest heating stove money could buy. Round Oak introduced its p
opular mascot Chief Doe-Wah-Jack around 1900.
At its height in the 1910s, the company employed 1200 of the 5000 residents in Dowagiac, Michigan. Round Oak stayed strong into the 1920s and survived the Great Depression, but when World War II ended so did the government contracts helping the company stay afloat. As a result, in 1946 Round Oak stopped producing stoves.
