*Up for sale here is a very early open pontiled medicine or hair oil bottle from London, England. May date from the 1820 to 1830's era. This crude light aqua colored example is in near mint condition. The thin flared out dime lip has no chips or flea bites on it. The rest of the heavily embossed bottle is quite clean, with the back panel having some slight internal haze. There is an open bubble in the neck. Very minor. Bottle has no checks, pings, pot stones or dings. The embossing is very crude with the early font lettering. Please see all of the photos, as they tell the best story.
*It crudely reads on the front panel ~ "ROWLAND'S MACASSAR". On the side panel ~ "OIL". Back panel ~ "No 20 HATTON / GARDEN / LONDON". Opposite and last side panel ~ "THE ORIGINAL / AND GENUINE". All of the crude embossing is crisp and easy to read. It has the open tubular pontiled diagonal hinge mold base. The very early and crude example from the UK measures 3 5/8 inches tall, and 1 1/8 of an inch by 7/8 of an inch across the crude rectangular base. You will be quite pleased with this bottle, which was dug in the southwestern Pennsylvania region many years ago.
