    FREE
domestic shipping.   We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate.  If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates.  We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
After collecting bottles for many years we finally came across one of these bottles with the paper label still on it which identified the product 'LAXOL' as being a Castor oil.
The paper label on this bottle is a copy, a facsimile of that paper label, a high quality reproduced copy which tells the rest of the story about what this bottle held and more
    .  This bottle is
    embossed "
    A. J. WHITE
" and this name is reflective of the old Shaker communities and the bottled products that they produced.
The first Shaker community was established at New  Lebanon, N.Y., U.S.A., in 1787.  Members of the United Society of Believers--the "Shakers"--have long been renowned for their skill in the preparation of various types of medicines. The Shaker community of Mount Lebanon established its first medical garden in 1820.
In 1875 the Shakers of Mt. Lebanon, joined in a business deal with "
    A. J. WHITE
" ( A. J. (Andrew Judson) White ) a proprietary medicine maker in New York City.    White helped the Shakers meet their growing need for distribution. He printed the Shaker almanacs and sold their products.   White agreed to buy all his botanical ingredients from the Mt. Lebanon community in exchange for a loan to revitalize his business.  White was then able to capitalize on the Shaker reputation for high quality, pure drugs, and so-distance his products from some of the shadier aspects of the "patent" medicine business. One of his earlier products, Mother Seigel's Curative Syrup, became one of America's most popular medicines.  From there he put up many different types of medicines, including this LAXOL castor oil that he put up in these beautiful triangular cobalt blue bottles.  The Laxol line was so successful that A. J. had different color and size bottle's used for this product, to differentiate some of the minor difference of the Laxol products.   The Laxol line continued well into the 1900's, as attested to by the machine made Laxol bottles you see, and A. J. White's company survived until 1957, when it was bought by Smith, Kline & French Laboratories.  So this is an A. J. White bottle, the same A. J. White that was involved with the Shaker Community.   This COBALT BLUE COLORED bottle is one of the few things left that remind us of the Shaker Communities role in the patent medicine industry, a NICE and SHINY CLEAN example here,
