    Description

Item is being sold from a private collection to help offset living costs from the past year.
This is an incredible example of Tibetan (or Mongolian) history — a copper repoussé ewer (teapot and/or wine vessel) with Inlaid stone Turquoise, 14 stones in total. This piece is dated between 1700-1901. Museum-quality copper craftsmanship, as is in keeping and consistent with it's purpose for shamanic or ritual use. The pour-spout is in the form of a Makara, a Hindu/Buddist mythical creature that is part elephant, part sea-dragon. The handle is equally stunning in craftsmanship, taking on the form of a lion, (the protector of The Buddha). The body of the vessel is beautifully chiseled with sacred and geometrically cymatic patterns throughout, including a great many Buddist figures that appear to be seated in Padmasana (or lotus position), as is consistent with Buddhist tradition regarding the veneration of divinely ordained ritualistic or medicinal objects. Lastly, and perhaps most intriguing, is the vessel's interior -It is not made of the traditional bronze or hammered copper, but rather of a richly dense and heavily patinated wood (possibly Himalayan alderwood) that does not appear to be lacquered.

BONUS —- As a show of gratitude, your purchase will include as a gift, an original mid-century Tibetan temple rubbing in superb condition (fair market value :0).
PLEASE NOTE: The only item that seems to be of question is whether or not the advertised vessel was meant to have a top or lid that was somehow affixed separately. Albeit, I have found no record or history of such a covering being part of this particular vessel’s ritualistic or medicinal use, nor given its relative age.
