quack or patent medicine bottle.   According to the label, this wasn't just any old snake oil, not even your run-of-the-mill snake oil, no, but it was the
WORLD FAMOUS - DOUBLE STRENGTH - OLD FASHION

Condition
:   Bottle is in good clean condition.  It has a trace of wear and haze - from age and use, but there isn't anything specifically wrong with the bottle itself.  The label is aged and worn, has some spots of staining and/or fading, letter loss and light tattering but we strengthened it by patching in a new backing.   BUT it is a complete, LEGIBLE and original label, as seen in the pictures.   *

This Snake Oil was a cure-all medicine that, according to the label, was used for everything from tooth ache to sore feet.

We purchased an old time leather doctor's bag and it still had several of these quack medicine bottles in it. Some whole, some broken, others in various states of damage and decay, and some still had the 'snake oil' still inside of them.   We are down to just one or two left and the label's on these ones are not the best, some we even did some patch work on to hold up.   But they are the original old labels.
From the label, it looks like a quack medicine man's traveling inventory. No doubt, a patent medicine man that went from town to town, door to door, and set up at county fair's peddling this quack concoction as the labels give instructions for sending .25/bottle to old C. F. Sam in Durham, North Carolina. This is it, the REAL THING a SNAKE OIL medicine that was peddled by a traveling medicine show, just like out of the old western cowboy movies on TV.
This was the quack medicine bottle that started all of the talk about 'snake oil' when referring to patent medicines as being 'quack' medicines.
Back then, when easterners were heading out west and first encountered rattle snakes, they thought that the
oil from these venomous creatures must surely be able to cure all types of human afflictions.
After all, with how wicked and evil they look and how fatal and lethal they are, if the venom or oil could just be collected and used in a good way, to kill-off the microbes that so afflicted mankind back in the day, well it could be a blessing among all mankind.  Thus the Snake Oil Traveling Medicine Show was born with many a quack medicine man procuring the snake oil out west, bottling it with a handful of other ingredients (often laced with a narcotic, for effect), then sold as the Golden Medical Discovery of the Ages = SNAKE OIL.  Now all that is left from this long-gone moment in western history, are a few of these old 'snake oil' bottles as a reminder. But remember, as the label on this bottle clearly states,
this isn't just your run-of-the-mill snake oil, no, but it is the WORLD FAMOUS - DOUBLE STRENGTH - OLD FASHIONED
