Description
This bottle may represent one of the earliest Karl Hutter bottles known. Fred Roshirt was a Union soldier who survived the Civil War and shortly after moved to Albany, NY where he worked at a brewery. In the 1870's he moved to Schodac, NY where he owned a brewery (see pic) and opened a hotel which had later become a historical landmark. This bottle is blown in a two part post mold and has an applied blob consistent with 1870's era beer bottles. This bottle was also blown in a wood mold (great whittle). The earliest reference to Karl Hutter until now was from 1885 showing he was in business then. Further research shows Karl Hutter may have been making bottles as early as 1877. This bottle shows the 1st known Hutter mark on the base. I submit to you that this bottle may be proof Hutter was making bottles in the late 1870's. Not only is it historically significant, it's purty.. haha! This also is likely one of the earliest bottles with "This Bottle Not To Be Sold" on the heel. Conservatively, I estimate this bottle to have been made between 1877-1883. Applied lips were pretty much gone by the early 1880's especially in the NE. No damage whatsoever with all the glistening character of a top shelf beer! A GREAT bottle!Shipping to the lower 48 only!
