insurance.   We do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate.  If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates.  We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
Here is a quack cure bottle that, though concocted in France, was imported to the U. S. and distributed throughout America.   Over the years we have seen several of these bottles with their paper labels still intact, listing many different importers and also showing that this was absolutely
a venereal disease medicine for syphilis, gonorrhea, and other horrid sounding afflictions
.  There are a hand full of these types of bottles that are both made in France and in the U.S. that are shamefully common to find, at least out west here.   All of
the 'dirty little secrets' that the history books didn't tell about many a leading citizen, are being found buried in the past behind their old houses
, in the long forgotten out house pits of yesteryear.  In some of these little old towns where it's easy to keep track of whose who and who lived where, well, it's
almost embarrassing to find out which of the citizens were using this product; town Mayors, Chief of Police, company Presidents,
and sadly, the perfect little family head, dad, and with a mom and little kids!   Anyway, this bottle is quite the looker, a very fancy and unique shape which I guess was important considering the contents.  Most of the ones you see are just embossed with the "INJECTION BROU" embossing, but this one also has the street address and the city, Paris, a little rarer variant.   You normally find these bottles in clear glass or light amethyst, but here is one that is an advanced deep purple color..  You hear about old
purple or SCA (sun colored amethyst)
glass, and in general terms, here is how it works:
The purple color is the result of having manganese in the glass.  Manganese is a mineral, a rock, that was mined, crushed, and pulverized into a powder, then added to vats of molten liquid glass, and acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the natural aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass.   But when exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, it triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color.  With few exceptions, only glass blown before 1914 has manganese in it and will turn sun-colored-amethyst.   So a bottle has to be old enough and had to be blown with manganese in the glass, in order to turn purple.   But it's all worth it as, not only does this purple/amethyst color make this a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique
