Onoto - Style Fountain Pen by Ban-ei Group - Vintage (1960's)
The following pen is believed to have been made in the 1960s. It is an “Onoto-style” pen, very popular in Japan even nowadays. On the information sheet accompanying we can read that this is a pen inspired on the Onoto model of 1918, with a plunger filling system.
The Japanese pen does not use any self-filling operation but the Japanese eyedropper system derived and inspired by the old style Onoto plunger.
The information sheet also states that the pen is the work of just two people, Kabutogi Ginjiro for the nib, and the legendary pen maker Sakai Eisuke for the body and shut-off mechanism. The two are of the Ban-ei Group (Tsuchida Pens).
The nib is a Steady (Special) Perfect 14k gold nib, it is one of the Kabutogi’s registered brands. The nib has a fair amount of flex to it as shown in the photos. The writing sample was done with a previously sold pen, this listing is for a new undipped pen.
