insurance. We do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
This old bottle would of originally come with a "
MOTHER SEIGEL'S CURATIVE SYRUP
" paper label as we have had several of them over the years. The name Mother Seigel was synonymous with the old shaker - colony patent medicine products and this name appears embossed on antique medicine bottles that held Shaker products. Shakers = the United Society of Believers in Christ's second coming. This Christian group was founded way back in England in the 1700's and the were initially known as "Shaking Quakers" because of their ecstatic behavior during worship services. Early on Shakers settled in New Lebanon, New York. During the Shaker's peak in the mid-19th century, there were about 6,000 Shakers and they were skilled in the preparation of various types of medicines. The Shaker community of Mount Lebanon established its first medical garden in 1820. T
he Shaker reputation for high quality, pure drugs, led to a very successful venture and o
ne of their early products,
Mother Seigel's Curative Syrup
, became one of America's most popular medicines,
which this bottle is an example
