Last and greatest of the High Elves of old, Galadriel is wise beyond reckoning and possessing of powerful magic. Yet for all her gifts even the Lady of Lothlórien is drawn by the power of the weapon of her enemy, the One Ring.
When Frodo comes to her home bearing the Ring, Galadriel must confront her greatest temptation. Long have her thoughts lingered on the Ring, but until now it has always been beyond her reach.
Now before her, and freely offered by Frodo, the Ring beguiles the Lady of the Wood. In the moment that this choice hangs between them Galadriel is transfigured in Frodo’s sight: manifest as a dark queen both beautiful and terrible, her raiment rippling with energy and eyes blazing like black flames, a terrifying vision of what could be.
Yet as quickly as it was unleashed, the vision passes, and once again before Frodo stands the serene Lady of Lórien, kind, gentle, and yet now somehow smaller. The challenge met and her path set, Galadriel is resolved to her fate: to remain herself and go west beyond the shores of Middle-earth, where her kin await her.
CREATING GALADRIEL, DARK QUEEN
The prototype for this 1:6 scale figure was expertly sculpted at Weta Workshop by Brigitte Wuest, lead sculptor on
The Lord of the Rings
trilogy. Brigitte is familiar with the Elven Queen: the very first collectible she sculpted at the Workshop was a 1:4 scale bust of the Lady Galadriel. Nearly two decades later, Brigitte revisited the character - this time sculpting the filmmaker’s terrifying vision of Galadriel, should she be tempted by the One Ring and succumb to its corrupting influence.
In this charged scene from
The Fellowship of the Ring
, Galadriel transforms before Frodo into an ominous vision of the future. Her robes billow about her as she is flooded with the corrupting power of the One Ring. To capture the tension and movement of this iconic moment, Brigitte Wuest used traditional techniques to develop Galadriel’s pose and costume through clay. Each individual stand of sculpted fabric was built up over a mini armature of spring steel and aluminium mesh; layer upon painstakingly textured layer. 50 individual strands make up the sculpted garment on the prototype.
I liked the flying fabric, the power it had. I wanted to capture that movement in this piece and make it seem like dark power is surging through the Elven Queen.

NOTE: IN THE MARKETPLACE THERE ARE SO MANY SELLERS OF COUNTERFEIT WETA PRODUCTS.
EXPERIENCE WETA COLLECTORS ARE NOT FOOLED BY SELLERS OF COUNTERFEIT MERCHANDISE BECAUSE THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE INCREDIBLE WORKMANSHIP PRODUCED BY SIDESHOW/WETA. IT IS THE NON EXPERIENCE BUYER WHO ARE TAKEN ADVANTAGE AND CONNED INTO THINKING THEY ARE PURCHASING LEGITIMATE WETA PRODUCTS. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT. THE QUALITY OF COUNTERFEIT PIECES ARE NOT COMPARABLE TO LEGITIMATE WETA PRODUCTS. IT'S LIKE PURCHASING A BRACELET FROM TIFFANY, OR PURCHASING A BRACELET FROM WALGREENS. THE PICTURE ON THE WETA BOX IS NOT ALWAYS COMPARABLE TO THE WETA PIECE IN REALITY. DON'T BE FOOLED!
First, keep in mind that Weta do not sell shoddy work. Weta uses the best materials and have the best artisans to produce their pieces of art.
Poor workmanship ,substandard materials, multiple stress lines, tattered materials, asymmetric designs, poor detailing, poor paint job, and other features that are unacceptable on a quality piece of art. These characteristics are quite noticeable on counterfeit products.
So, don't be naive and accept an item as a legitimate Weta piece because the vendor claims Weta. Counterfeiters spend more money on recreating the pretty box than on their counterfeit figurines. So, you can easily be deceived looking at outer box. Always, purchase from a vendor that accepts returns. Many counterfeit Weta products are sold directly from China into the USA. It's almost impossible to get your money back. Often free shipping is offered but if you have to return to China the shipping cost may be prohibitive.
Rule of thumb, if you are not awed by your piece, it's not a Weta. Weta scale models are designed by the same artisans who created for the The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies.
DID YOU KNOW?
Watch out for counterfeit products. Some significant vendors sell counterfeit goods. Also, they sell SECONDS, also known as Unbranded goods. Seconds are items rejected as inferior by a Companies Quality Control. These Companies do not Brand product rejections.
Vendor sell their products cheaper than anyone else because they buy for pennies on the dollars from counterfeit and Seconds salespersons.
The fraudulent behavior occurs when sellers sell these products as NEW, but do not add, that their goods are counterfeit or Seconds. Often, they will use the Companies name in their advertisement and allege their products are backed by the Companies name which in fact they are not. Some of these sellers claim to be certified dealers for the Company.
I sell only authentic products purchased from reputable dealers. I do not buy from a back door salesman.
I must compete with sellers of Counterfeit, and Seconds goods. That is why I am exposing these practices. I cannot sell at their lower prices. Sellers of authentic product buy for higher rates.
You want more excellent quality; you must pay more for your products. Authentic products look better because of the higher quality materials used in their production. They are likely to last longer for the same reason.
When you see sellers with the same generic picture as their peers, (There are no absolutes: not all sellers who show stock photos sell counterfeit or seconds goods.), selling as new, they probably are selling counterfeit products or Seconds.
And, if those sellers' prices are nearly the same, most likely they are selling counterfeit goods. Also, if product prices are too good to be true, they might be counterfeit or seconds goods.
Counterfeiters' provide the pictures to be advertised and set the selling prices. Buyers must stay within the counterfeiters' guidelines if they want to do business in the future. Their counterfeit buyers are not allowed to profit more than the counterfeiters on the products they sell.
I am proud to sell authentic products at my eBay store. They always make happier customers.
