    Up for auction is a dug Civil War Era New York Medical University Bottle Cobalt Blue This beautiful cobalt blue medical bottle was excavated from a latrine at Broad and Churchill Street in Richmond, Virginia.
    The measurements of the medicine bottle are : 7 1/8” tall , 2 1/4” across . The neck of the bottle is 1 1/2” and the body is 5” tall . Considering the medicine bottle was buried so long it sustained very little damage . There’s a very small chip at the bottom of the bottle and very small chip on the lip of bottle.
    Historical footnotes about New York Medical University Medicines : Was a patent medicine company manufactured by Professior J. Walter Scott , M.D. , Pres. NY Med. University and Associates.whose address was listed at No. 8 Universary Place, NYC. The press guestioned the validity of his M.D. license as were as his associates. It was noted that Dr. Scott was listed in New York City directories from 1863 to 1875 at various addresses. Despite the press reported several complaints
    have made by at the Mayor’s office against the. proprietor of the “ New York Medical University “ ( Dr. J. Walter Scott) , charging that the institution is a “ bogus” affair and also that his diploma as not a regular as a n M.D. . Despite the negative press he fought the charges and he continue to treat patients and manufacture his patent medicines under the name of “ New York Medical Universary “ on its label and bottle.
