:   This bottle is in GOOD STURDY condition.  It has wear and stain, the kind that a century and a quarter years of time marks a bottle with.  Otherwise the bottle has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc

This MEDICAL DISCOVERY bottle is just a nice BIG example of an old patent or 'quack' medicine bottle.   Between the LARGE size, the MEDICAL DISCOVERY embossing, and the AQUA MARINE color, it really stands out.  It is the typical 'poster-child' of patent medicine bottles put out in the latter 1800's and the Medical Discovery title of it is a prime example of the type of patent medicines  that were being manufactured during the Progressive era of America, ca. 1870's - 1910. New slogans were being cleverly thought up for these ‘new’ concoctions in stride with all of the new mechanical gizmos and gadgets that were being invented. Along with the gasoline engine, electric battery, automobile and airplane, came the onslaught of new patent medicines for many of the old time ailments. New elixirs, oils, compounds, cures, remedy’s, products with such names as “ELIXIR OF LIFE”, “SWAMP-ROOT CURE”, the “LIFE RENEWER”, and “NEW LIFE PILLS”, were daily hitting the market as ‘new’ medical innovations. The “MEDICAL DISCOVERY” that was once in this bottle was portrayed as some kind of “NEW’ formula which had just been invented that cured all diseases, right at the time when all of these other new inventions and creations were taking place. In reality, this “medical discovery” was probably a concoction composed of little more than an alcohol based liquid with some intriguing sounding herbs added, medicinal oils compounded in, with flavoring mixed in and quite probably a narcotic ingredient so that a user really would feel 'cured'. Then it was promoted as some secret new formula and marketed as the “Medical Discovery” of the age.  This bottle is in the same classic form as most of the old patent medicine bottles from this era were,
