insurance. We do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate. This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
A difficult bottle to
find with label. Back in the day when this bottle was in circulation, some of the eye drop products on the market
contained OPIUM or MORPHINE to soothe the pain.
Today there are very few examples left with paper label's intact to document this.
What makes this bottle desirable is that, according to the wrapper, these were "CELEBRATED" eye drops. Note too there is a WARNING on the label that the product could be habit forming.
Back in the 1800's when this product was on the
market, eye water wasn't just eye water to make a person feel better,
but it was a
dvertised
as a CURE or REMEDY that
cured
diseases of the eyes, loss of sight, even blindness, which makes them so interesting to collect today
.
Some of them that had a narcotic ingredient led folks to believe that the product was curing the problem when in actuality, it was just the narcotic making the hurt go away.
Many collectors of these antique eye remedy bottles are
Optometrists
and Medical Doctors themselves, as they are building collections that show the history of the eye medicine industry. This is a classic example of what a 19th century eye water bottle was, and would look very nice
displayed in a case stationed in the waiting room or office
of an eye specialist. In summary,
it is a scarce bottle to find in this original condition,
EMBOSSED and LABELED
. It is getting
harder to find
original labeled medicine
bottle, especially examples that are both embossed and labeled AND with a narcotic ingredient
