Description

ANTIQUE OPEN PONTIL STEPHEN SWEET'S
INFALLIBLE LINIMENT NORWICH CT
You are bidding on an early, crude antique open pontil
STEPHEN SWEET'S INFALLIBLE LINIMENT
bottle from Norwich, Connecticut. Dating between 1840-1860, this bottle is aqua in color and stands 5" tall by 2-1/8" wide.  It is blown in mold and has an applied tapered top with an in-making flaw on the top lip, short neck, smooth panels, crude non-symmetrical features, irregular glass surfaces and a deep, sharp tubular open pontil scar in the center of the base.  It is strongly embossed on all four sides and reads as follows:
STEPHEN  //  SWEET'S  //  INFALLIBLE  //  LINIMENT
Prepared from the recipe of Dr. Stephen Sweet of Connecticut, Richardson & Co. sole proprietors, (1859-1860), Norwich, CT. Advertised 1859, for neuralgia, headache, piles, sore throat, toothache, bruises, cuts, corns, chilblains.
This early open pontil quack med is in outstanding condition with no cracks, chips or damage besides the aforementioned manufacturing flaw in the lip, otherwise fine.
