You are bidding on an early, crude antique open pontil
J. R. STAFFORD'S OLIVE TAR
bottle from New York. Dating between 1840-1860, this bottle is aqua in color and stands 5-5/8" tall by 2-1/8" wide.  It is blown in mold and has an applied square collar, long neck, smooth panels, sloped shoulders, crude non-symmetrical features, wavy, whittled glass surfaces and a deep, sharp tubular open pontil scar in the center of the base.  It is strongly embossed on the side panels and reads as follows:

The Oliver Tar Co., 4 New St (1855), 16 State St (1857) No. 315 Broadway (1859), New York City.  Advertised 1859, to be taken, applied and inhaled not taken.  Retal 50 cents per bottle. Also produced iron and sulphur powders for the blood and digestion and Olive Tar inhaler for .00.
This early open pontil quack med is in outstanding condition with no cracks, chips or damage.
