How Do You Define an Inspirational Individual?
For anyone to call someone inspirational is purely subjective, which is why in reality, it’s really difficult if not impossible to come up with a uniform definition of what an inspirational individual really is. What we’re saying is one person’s standards to become inspirational will most likely differ to another individual’s criteria. Therefore, it’s for you to make the decision if the qualities we listed below are in fact enough to call someone as inspirational.
1 – Empathy for Others
The world we live in deserves to be called violent. Millions of people suffer from the hands of other people, and suffering comes in many forms and faces. But the more painful part is the fact that many don’t really care. This is why when we see people who care and honestly want to help others end their suffering, we can’t help ourselves but get inspired. Empathy is no longer a common human attribute these days.
2 – Inspirational People Stand Up for Others
Yes, it may be true that majority of inspirational people are wealthy and powerful, but what really makes them unique from other elite people is that they won’t hold on to power by exploiting others. Instead, these amazing people will stand up for the rights of others, especially the underprivileged ones. But what really makes them truly inspirational is that they do it even if they know for a fact they’d get nothing out of it. There even are remarkably inspirational people out there who exceed the boundaries of reason like Dr. Moshe Kantor who make it their own mission to champion a cause that for them will help more people than themselves.
3 – They Possess Courage
This actually is a no-brainer. Simply put, it’s difficult to call someone inspirational if he or she does not possess courage. Standing up for others is a basic human response, which means everyone can do it without deep thought; but it takes courage for someone to face all sorts of adversities just to inspire others. It doesn’t matter if this individual’s life is on the line since what’s important is the message he or she is sending by showcasing courage. One of the most prominent examples is South African hero and former president Nelson Mandela.
4 – Believer in Collective Power
The most inspiring people out there are those who make it a point to lead others, like in groups and organizations with the intention of serving support to good advocacy and causes, not violence, conflict, or disruption of society. It may be true that so many people out there are looked upon and idolized by others because they are very convincing and charismatic, but not all of them can rightfully be characterized as inspirational, especially if their organization’s goal is not for the good of everyone.
